Science and Technology VideosWhile everyone’s waiting for the first images of the James Webb Space Telescope, Hubble continues to make stunning astronomical discoveries. The Hubble Space Telescope has determined the mass of the first free-floating black hole in our Galaxy. The Milky Way is believed to be home to more than 100 million stellar-mass black holes. However, the problem is that since even light cannot escape the gravity of a black hole, it is impossible to discover them. So far, astronomers had only discovered black holes in binary systems by analyzing either the gravitational waves or electromagnetic radiation emitted when they feast on their companion stars.
