It turns out, the Moon is drifting away from Earth. Each year our satellite moves away from us about an inch and a half. An there’s no way to turn off this movement or turn back the clock. The forces of gravity are irreversible and the distance between the Moon and our planet keeps growing. Just think about it: when the Moon first formed 4.5 billion years ago, it was 10 times nearer to our planet than it is today!
